GuestNavigator shudder between 40 and 60 kmh and I’m praying it’s just low fluid not a full rebuild
My 2016 Navigator has been the family hauler for years and it’s been pretty solid aside from the usual thirst for petrol but over the last two weeks I’ve noticed this weird shudder when the transmission is shifting from third to fourth under light throttle especially when I’m just cruising through the city streets in Abu Dhabi around the Tourist Club area where the speed limits keep you right in that awkward range. It doesn’t do it when I accelerate harder and it’s smooth as glass on the highway out to Al Ain it’s just that specific low speed low load scenario that makes the whole truck feel like it’s driving over a rumble strip for a split second and then it’s gone. I checked the fluid level myself with the engine running and it looked a bit brownish and maybe a touch low on the dipstick but I’m not a transmission guy and I’d rather have someone who knows these Ford 6R80 boxes inside out give it a proper look before I make things worse by just topping it off with the wrong Mercon spec. I’ve been trying to find lincoln transmission repair experts abu dhabi who won’t just immediately quote me a fifteen thousand dirham rebuild when all it might need is a fluid flush and a new filter because I’ve read on the American forums that these transmissions can be picky about fluid condition and sometimes a simple service cures the shudder if you catch it early enough. Anyone else with a Navigator or an Expedition had this low speed shudder and did a fluid change actually fix it or am I just delaying the inevitable and should start mentally preparing for a bigger bill?
