GuestSomebody in the Midlands recently started the process of registering one of the used Japanese stock cars they imported, and the DVLA delay has been far longer than expected.
The vehicle is a 2018 Toyota Prius imported from Japan, with all the paperwork submitted, MOT completed, insurance arranged, and NOVA confirmation sorted. The expectation was that registration would be fairly straightforward, but it has now been several weeks with very little progress.
A few people locally have mentioned experiencing similar issues recently, while others seem to have received their V5C much quicker. It is difficult to know whether the delays depend on the type of vehicle, the time of year, or simply luck.
A couple of questions for anyone who has gone through the process recently:
* How long did DVLA take to register your import?
* Did they request any additional documents after the initial application?
* Were certain models slower to process than others?
* Has anyone had delays with used Japanese stock cars specifically? The vehicle is currently sitting ready to use, but without registration everything feels stuck in limbo. It would be interesting to hear recent experiences from around the UK, especially from anyone who has imported hybrids, kei cars, or performance models over the last 6 to 12 months.
Any tips, timelines, or lessons learned would be appreciated. There may even be useful guides or checklists out there that others have found helpful during the process.
